Holly Wood Cane - a picture storyI finally felt well enough to order and install the finishing touches on my holly walking stick. I installed a lanyard to go over my wrist so I can let go of the stick without dropping it.
The stick needed to be a little longer for me so I added the special rubber tip which is 1 ½” long. The stick is now the perfect length for me.
Mission accomplished! How was it made....
Bark removed and slot drilled.
Close-up of the slot.
Handle shape.
Hole cleaned up.
Tools used.
Mark helix with tape.
Clamp a bar to the saw blade.
Saw helix to depth.
Chisel out a vee.
Use a gouge to shape helix bottom.
Use a file to smooth the groove.
Finished filing the helix.
Round over corners.
Finished helix.
Started carving a Wizard's face.
Carving the face.
