Candle Holder
I found this brass candle stick at an estate sale and paid 50 cents for it. It looked pretty bad, and that was why no one bought it. I put it on the buffing wheel and shined it up, and now it looks quite nice. I made a walnut base for it to sit on, and it only lacked a candle. Then I received a notice that I had a package at the post office, and I went to get it. It was several pieces of wood sent by Bob Beckwith in Canada. One piece, of unknown name, had curling bark on it, and I knew immediately that this was the "candle" I wanted in this stand. I cut it in half and gave it several coats of clear lacquer. I added a short piece of string to the top to simulate a wick. I think this is a clever way to get a nice looking piece with minimal expense. James D. Thompson, the old millrat in Riverside, CA.
