Bits of History
I went to work for Ameron in 1988. I hired in as a layout man. Within a few months I was moved into the office of the Special Fittings Dept. where I reviewed incoming blueprints and discussed changes with the engineers. I also kept track of time and materials, ordered materials, and coordinated with other departments. After more than a year at that I was promoted to Plant Inspector with one directive: Make sure that nothing leaves the plant unless it is right. After a little more than a year of inspecting I was promoted to night shift supervisor with responsibility for the entire plant. I spent more than a year at that, and then I decided that I wasn't going to work any more. I was working far more than the 40 hours a week that I expected to work and it became a burden on my health. I went back into the Boilermakers Union and was asked to teach Local 91 apprentices for So. Cal. and Nevada. I became the lead instructor and a licensed teacher. I continued teaching for several years until my health gave out, and now I play with woodworking and old tools.
