The gang at woodcentral's handtool forum are building drawer pulls
for
Ernie's new toolbox. The theme is tortured tools. Here's my offering: a
fake Stanley #1 plane...

with two ardox nails pounded through it...

CONSTRUCTION DETAILS

The body is five pieces of mild steel and was MIG welded freehand...no jigs, only a vise. The frog was whittled out of some scrap hard maple and epoxied to the body. A nasty old #3 gave up its rosewood knob and tote, which were resized for the tiny plane. The threaded rods for holding the knob and tote on the #3 were cut down and welded to the new body. Also nicked from the #3 were the adjusting nut and yoke. Both of which were altered slightly. The blade, chipbreaker and lever cap were all made from mild steel...no need for a real blade on this one.
Total build time was around six hours.
