Hand carved Indian Bust

For your viewing entertainment take a look at my newly completed carving. It is a bust of an American Indian done at about half size.

Here is the carving before any finish...

After finish...

The wood is butternut. The colors are analine dyes, followed by garnet shellac, and then black shellac for contrast.

It took me about 6 months of off and on work to complete this. I was
learning as I went along. It is my first try at a human head.

I am not real happy with my pictures because the flash put highlights
on the piece that are not there when you see it for real. The pictures
are also darker than the original. I wish I knew how to use Photoshop.
But, it is what it is.

Looking through my collection of stuff, I found an old marble lamp base
that I mounted the carving on. Don't know if this is permanent yet
though.

I didn't like the marble base I originally used for the Indian I
recently carved.  I just added a new base that seems more appropriate.
See what you think.
