Wood you have is always better than wood you don't got. The trick to woodworking... (like many things) is getting what you need out of what you already have. When (not if) you screw up, it either breaks your will and kills your dreams as you slink away, or leads to experimentation and invention in the second round as you get up off the floor and go back in with vigor and determination. It all serves to make you unique in the end. Forces you to learn skills you didn't even know you needed and learn to cover mistakes like a pro. You might find another tool could help and even if it doesn't, once you have it, maybe another job for it will come to mind instead. Maybe a tool you already have could be improved to do the job and there's another opportunity. If you're going to work on a tool, why not push if further and make it pleasing while you're at it? It's a doorway, and it's always open wide. It's full of struggle, heartache, triumph and delight. And pride. And, It never ends, always more inside. All you have to do is brace yourself and wade in. Take your shots, take your lumps. If you go down, go down swinging and already making plans for the next bout. Otherwise you might as well join the other girls waiting in line at the dance... merely dreaming. yours, 01/28/2006 |
