Snips... ;-)

Traditional Cabinet Construction

I've built nightstands and knock around tables, and I've built some saws. No comparison, at all.  I love how the fans of the current topic consider it a $2000 stand and the detractors think of it as $3k. It's actually in the middle, but closer to 3.

I love how humankind went from the eternal genius of Palladio and Chippendale to the dowdy plain slab boxes of FLWright and the shakers in such a short time, historically speaking.

But it's uh, "clean". Guess words of real praise are hard to come by. ( and I suppose if you are a hard core germaphobe, hospital sterile might make some difference to you).

If you build a saw, every miniscule curve, of which the tote is all curves, stands out like neon on a dark lonely highway. The smallest difference, the tiniest change and everybody knows it from a distance of 25 feet.  Every millimeter of the saw entire will be looked over and touched and silently judged on it's overall merits. And then it has to work.

Another piece of packing crate modern furniture, who can tell?

If you did nothing but substitute particle board for solid cherry, the nightstand under discussion -would- be Ikea or K-mart, completely devoid of the slightest decoration either way. Or did I overlook something?

The carving and inlay escaped my attention?? Actually I didn't see the back of the nightstand.

Maybe there are ebony strung bowfronts with sand burned bellflowers and raised decorated satinwood bound panels and inlaid carved cabriole legs with ball n claw feet on the back?? Now that, I'd be tempted to pay real money for.

Bring back the Herter Bros!!!

PS Mike and Son, your inlet heel saw blades are the best I have ever seen in my life and I've looked.

PPS Anybody else see the "new" Ford GT40? A beautiful lady takes the road once again. Nothing straight about her shape.

yours Scott
