Steel Square - continue...

And the congregation all said, "Amen!"

I also have a digital level that gives me a reading in degrees or inch per foot.  I occasionally use that to cheat and cut directly to the middle of the game.  That makes me smile too.  But so far, my steel square has been a necessity even after the cheat.

The steel square is an old tool that has survived the test of time and is still readily available and very much still in use.  Bosch is the only company with a real potential threat.  Their digital level has a swinging arm that reads angles.

Will this replace my steel square?  Maybe, partly.  But I still use a plumb bob even though I have a laser level.  I still use hand saws to finish intersecting cuts made by my circular saw.  And I carry a Stanley 101 to keep my cuts straight on material narrow enough for it to be effective, 3/4" or  there-abouts.

What I'm saying is, I like to mix the old with the new.  Who wants circular saw marks on their projects, or those power-planer (jointer) marks?  A pass or 2 with a hand plane or a scraper will look much nicer than swirl marks left by a random orbit sander.

I LOVE old tools.  I love new tools too! Anyone who has too many of either is welcome to include me in their list of poor suckers to dump them on.

Thank you  for posting the manual on the web and thank you for not judging a person by the tools he uses.
